Welcome to Our Darkest Day: Why This Story Needed to Be Told

By Reginald Martin

There are moments in life that divide time into two parts: before and after.

For me, everything changed on one ordinary day that became the most devastating day of my life. The day I lost my wife. The day my daughter lost her mother. The day our world shattered — quietly, suddenly, and without warning.

This blog, and this book — Our Darkest Day — exist because of that moment.

But this story is not only about loss.
It is about love.
It is about faith.
It is about learning how to breathe again when the air feels too heavy to hold.

Why I Wrote Our Darkest Day
I never planned to write a book like this.

Like many people, I believed grief was something you survived privately — something you endured quietly and carried silently. But grief has a way of demanding to be felt, spoken, and understood.

After Amanda’s passing, I found myself searching — for answers, for meaning, for reassurance that love does not end when life does. What I discovered was this: grief is not the absence of love; it is the proof of it.

I wrote Our Darkest Day to honor:
A love story that began long before tragedy
A wife and mother whose life mattered deeply
A daughter who showed me courage when I felt empty
And a faith that carried us when I could no longer carry myself
This book tells our real story — how we grew up, met, fell in love, built a family, and unknowingly walked through our final days together.

Who This Book Is For
This book is for:

Anyone who has lost someone they love
Anyone walking through grief, confusion, or unanswered questions
Anyone who has whispered “God, why?” into the silence
Anyone searching for hope without clichés
Anyone who believes love doesn’t end — it transforms
You do not need to share my faith to understand this story. You only need a heart that has loved deeply.

What You’ll Find Here on the Blog
This website and blog are an extension of the book — a place for reflection, honesty, and encouragement.

Here, I’ll share:

Reflections on grief, healing, and faith
Behind-the-scenes moments from the book
Lessons learned as a husband, father, and widower
Thoughts on love, legacy, and resilience
Updates on the book’s journey and reader stories
My hope is that this space becomes more than a website — that it becomes a place where you feel seen, understood, and less alone.

An Invitation
If you are here because you are hurting, I want you to know this:

You are not weak.
You are not broken.
And you are not alone.

If Our Darkest Day can bring even a small measure of comfort, clarity, or hope to your life, then sharing this story has been worth it.

Thank you for being here.
Thank you for reading.
And thank you for walking this journey with me.
